Sallie House

The Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas is a late-19th-century residence that became nationally known after Tony and Debra Pickman lived there in the early 1990s and described escalating unexplained events. Tony reported scratches and other physical marks, while accounts also include moving objects, unusual sounds and electrical or household disturbances. The activity was later associated with a supposed child spirit called “Sallie,” but the popular story that a young girl named Sallie died there after a doctor’s emergency procedure is much less secure historically than the Pickmans’ documented public claims and the house’s media history. The case was featured by the television program Sightings and later paranormal productions. ODDKNOWN therefore separates the named modern witnesses and their reports from the unverified identity/backstory of “Sallie.” The house is currently unoccupied and officially offered through Visit Atchison for booked daytime tours and overnight stays.
