The Pike — Elmer McCurdy Story
The former Pike amusement zone is on OK MAP because of one of Long Beach's strangest documented stories. During filming in the 1970s, a hanging 'mannequin' in an attraction broke apart and was discovered to be the mummified body of outlaw Elmer McCurdy, whose corpse had spent decades traveling through sideshows before its identity was recognized. The original Pike was demolished; this pin marks its former area.
