Elizabeth Lake Monster

Elizabeth Lake is one of the Antelope Valley's oldest monster legends. Lancaster's Museum of Art and History documents stories of a winged, reptilian creature associated with the lake when it was known as Laguna del Diablo, including a sensational 1886 newspaper account describing a large red, bat-winged animal. Later local folklore continued into the twentieth century. The story is cultural folklore, not verified wildlife.
