THE CAJON PASS WHISTLE
ODDKNOWN’s owner-imported folklore says a lone train whistle can be heard in Cajon Pass even when no train is visible on the tracks. The pass is a heavily used real rail corridor: California rail-planning documents identify BNSF operations through Cajon Pass and Union Pacific trackage rights, and the National Transportation Safety Board documents major historical rail accidents there, including a 1996 freight derailment at Cajon Junction that killed two crew members. Research did not locate an independent source connecting the specific “unseen whistle” claim to that derailment or to any other death, nor did it find a named witness or recurring documented ghost-train case for this exact report. Active trains can be heard from considerable distances and may be hidden by terrain. The whistle story therefore remains unverified folklore. Railroad rights-of-way and tracks are restricted and should never be entered for paranormal investigation.
